The £7m revamp of the Museum of Somerset moved a step closer to completion today with the appointment of a main contractor.

New galleries, displays, showcases and graphics will all wow visitors to Somerset County Council's showpiece museum at Taunton Castle. The winning bid for the fit-out work came from West Midlands based firm The Hub.

Over 30 companies from across Europe expressed an interest in working on the fit-out, following a competitive tendering process.

The Hub is due to begin work on the Castle this August, and the Museum of Somerset is expected to open to the public in spring 2011.
